Tell us about your business?
I help families with small children get more sleep. I work virtually all across the world with clients in all English-speaking countries. In addition, I accredit other would-be sleep consultants as well as coach new sleep consultants on sleep expertise and building a business.
What do you love most about your work?
I absolutely love seeing the transformation that families experience from being sleep deprived to being joyfully rested! Seeing them get their time, energy and even money back with great sleep is my absolute favourite.
What has been your path to entrepreneurship?
As with most entrepreneurs, my journey was very personal. After completing my PhD and working in public healthcare, I was compelled to shift focus and had a desire to help other families like mine. I also wanted more control over my life and to spend more time with my kids while they're still little and want to spend time with me! Becoming an entrepreneur has allowed my family to live the life of our dreams, with the freedom and flexibility that we truly desire.
What’s it like being a mother and a business owner?
At times, it's been wild, all-consuming and challenging. At most other times, it's been empowering and freeing.
What impact do you hope your work will have?
I firmly believe that as families with small children, sleep deprivation is not a given or a right of passage. My mission is to help families experience joyful rest, quality sleep and fun times together while awake. As a Mom, I am excited to be teaching my daughters all about small business ownership. I'm so proud of my eldest who already has her first business in operation.
What advice would you share with other entrepreneurs?
Be as resourceful as you possibly can and you will be extremely successful. Every challenge has a solution. You just need to find it. I'd also say that no one can do everything alone - we need community. Find the people who are your supports, your energy boosters, your mentors and mentees, and nurture those relationships!
You’ve been a long-time member and supporter of Moms at Work. Why?
I love everything that Moms at Work stands for. Allison and her team are doing very important work, and I will support them endlessly.
What's the one piece of advice you would give to families struggling with their infant's current sleep phase?
For all families going through a phase of challenging sleep: this too shall pass. There are so many ways that you can improve your little one's sleep, and none of those ways need to make you feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable. With patient consistency, there are many approaches to sleep that will be a good fit for your little one and your family, and there are experts who can help!
